The following formula is used to convert alfa into beta and vice-versa.
Formula 1
Alfa vs. Beta:
β = α / (1 - α)
Formula 2
Beta Vs. Alfa:
α = 1 – [ 1 / (β – 1) ]
Where:
β is the static current gain in the common collector configuration
α is the static current gain in the common base configuration
Application example:
Determine the static current gain in common emitter configuration (?) of a transistor with an static current gain in common base configuration (?) of 0.995.
Data:
α = 0.995
β = ?
Using formula 1:
β = 0.995 / (1 – 0.995)
β = 0.995 / 0.005
β = 199
