To voltages in a sine wave is the simple average (arithmetic mean) of all the instantaneous values in one cycle, disregarding sign.
Formula 1
Vm = 0,0637 x Vmax
Where:
Vm is the average value in volts (V)
Vmax the highest positive or negative value of the voltage in one cycle in volts (V)
Note: The same concepts can be applyied to currebrs and other periodic quantities with a sinewave shape.
Formula 2
Vmax = 1,567 x Vm
Application Example:
Calculate the peak or highest value of a sine wave voltage with an average value of 100 V.
Data:
Vm = 100 V
Vmax = ?
Using formula 1:
Vmax = 100 x 1,567 = 156,7 V
