Formula 1
V = w x f
Where:
V is the propagation speed of the considered signal in meters/second (m/s)
w is wavelength in meters (m)
f is the frequency in hertz (Hz)
Note: the formula can alsi be applied to light, radio waves and sound.
To sound: v = 340 m/s (average)
To light and radiowaves: v = 300 000 000 m/s
Derivated formulas:
Formula 2
f = V / w
Formula 3
w = V / f
Application Example:
What is the wavelength of a 150 MHz radio signal?
Data
f = 100 MHz = 100 x 106 :m
V = 300 x 106 m/s (speed of electromagnetic waves in the air)
w = ?
Using formula 2:
w = 300 x 106/100 x 10-6
w = 300/100 = 3 meters
