The purpose of this circuit is to test power supplies functioning as a variable load that can drain currents up to more than 5 A. The power transistor must be fitted with a heat radiator and the driver may be the TIP31. The circuit was obtained in a 1976 publication. PSUT is Power Supply Under Test, or power supply under test.
