“My concern when buying components is related to the suffix that some have. How do you know what they mean?”

Really, when buying, we must be very careful not to take something different than what we need. When we can go to the store everything is fine, the problems are less, although not all clerks are prepared to give reliable information.

When buying over the Internet, you need to be more careful.

What happens is that the suffixes of the components can either indicate electrical characteristics that have, for example, the gain or voltage (in the case of the TIP A, B and C transistors), or they can indicate the type of enclosure LM350K or LM350T

In the case of many integrated devices, the suffix still indicates the SMD version of the same component or a different terminal arrangement.

The best procedure is always to check the component's datasheet for possible versions beforehand to make sure that when purchasing the enclosure, it is the desired one or even if the component has the required characteristics.
