I have a circuit that requires a 12 V x 1 A power supply. What should I do if I want to power this circuit on a 12 V x 2 A power supply?
The 12 V x 1 A specification tells us that this circuit requires a 12 V supply that provides at least 1 A. Thus, when connected to this power source it will drain a current that can reach 1 A, hence the specification. If we connect to a source that can supply up to 2 A it will continue to function normally, as it will drain only what it needs, that is, it can reach 1 A. What you cannot do is use a source with a lower current.
