I have a small stereo that uses four large batteries. I bought a 6 V x 800 mA power supply, but when I open the volume, the sound distorts. What is going on?
There are two possibilities for the problem to occur. The first is poor filtering. Many battery eliminators use only one filter capacitor and their value is not sufficient for good filtering. The result is that the source does not have the necessary decoupling of the amplifying steps that feed back when consumption increases. If this is the problem, simply parallel another higher value capacitor with the existing capacitor. For example, if it is 470 uF or 1,000 uF, put one of 2,200 uF or even 4,700 uF. If this does not solve the problem, it may be that the eliminator has insufficient current that must be replaced with a higher current.
